We complete independent surface friction testing within all Australian States and Territories. Flexible modular transport and set-up options for our Griptester machines allows us to independently transport the test apparatus.
Kamen Engineering undertakes surface friction testing of roadways using the Griptester apparatus. The apparatus can be operated by towing at 50km/hr and by push mode at 5km/hr. We can tailor a test programme to specific needs.
Adequate surface texture is important for wet weather trafficking and maintaining high friction values. Sand patch testing is completed to assess texture.
Aggregate characteristics are critical in maintaining adequate friction values during service. Some aggregates such as igneous basalt materials, polish decreasing in surface friction values with time. Aggregate surface properties are assessed using the polished aggregate friction value (PAFV) test. Consideration of PAFV in high speed pavement operations such as runways and highways it is critical.
